I am very excited because you should be receiving your season brochures if you have not already. This make me happy because now you can see all the amazing performances we have lined up this season. It is a particularly exciting day today, as our first rehearsal is this evening. Maestro Garrett Allman is entering his 39th season, and I know he cannot wait to share this one with all of you.
Along with our amazing orchestra, we have some truly great talent lined up for you this year. First up is our 2019 Talent Among Us Winner, Claire Ryterski! Claire is an amazing soprano that will delight the audience on our opening night. A tough act to follow, but we have an amazing artist lined up. Katsuya Yuasa will be bringing the exciting melodies of his clarinet to our season, and is sure to blow the roof off.
Our pops concert this year will be held on March 21, 2020 (Wow... that year felt weird to type! It is coming up way too fast.). We are going to take you all on A Musical Journey across the country. This concert will feature music about the USA and by American Composers.
Don't worry, I am not forgetting about our amazing Chorale! They will be featured in two concerts this season, and joined by two amazing choral programs. Our annual Christmas concert will once again be at the family friendly time of 3:00pm, and will feature the Chorale and Jacksonville High School Choir. It is always a pleasure to have these talented young musicians grace the stage with us. And in May, we will be performing one of the truly biggest pieces that we have ever had the privilege to present. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Chorale and Illinois College Choir will present the JSS Premiere of Beethoven's Symphony no. 9! Not only are we excited about the enormity of this piece, but also that we will be joined by a magnificent collegiate choir.
This is a season you will not want to miss!
I look forward to seeing you at our concerts this season. I cannot wait to share my first season as the Executive Director (and 13th on stage) with you and our community.
